My Story - 5 Cool Things I'm Proud Of
With the start of a new season upon us, it got me thinking back to some of the coolest things that I’ve accomplished in the past few years.
Sometimes, you get so caught up in what you’re doing in the moment that you forget to look back and see just how far you’ve come.
Of course, you don’t want to dwell on the past (which, believe me, is easier said than done) but, revisiting where are you come from will not only help you celebrate your progress but may also trigger some new ways to use your old ideas.
Today I want to share five small stories about where I have been, and to how I used it to get to where I am today!
My Story - 5 Cool Things I'm Proud Of
1. painting the mural for a local business
So, I don’t know about you, but if you’re from Ontario in order to graduate high school you have to complete a certain now volunteer hours. I have always been a keener, so this was no issue for me as I had completed my volunteer hours before the end of my first semester in grade 9.
By the time grade 12 rolled around I definitely didn’t need any more volunteer time, but an opportunity presented itself where the owners of a local shop, who happen to be family friends one of my best friends, wanted to have a custom mural painted their shop.
So, being that we attended art school, a group of friends and I went to the bookstore every Friday for most of our senior year and we would spend a few hours working on this massive mural.
It had multiple doorways showing famous scenes from different stories, and there was even a 10-foot dragon!

2. having a meme drawing on national TV
So, I don’t know if you remember this, but if you’re into sports at all, a few years ago there was a HUGE controversy in the NFL called the deflategate.
Long story short, one team was accusing another team of intentionally deflating the football, which apparently gave an advantage to the first team’s quarterback.
The quarterback ended up having to go to court to testify his side of the story. It was all any sports network to talk about.
After first day in court, court drawings made their way to the public of said quarterback.
Well, that quickly turned into an iconic meme because the drawings look so ridiculous.
At the time, my dad at work at one of these sports networks who was reporting on the trial, and he had asked me to prepare a version of the meme of their evening hosts.
So, I did.
It was broadcast nationally on their stations. I can’t say it was my best piece of work I’ve ever made but it was definitely something.

3. My graphic design is the most liked IG post for WWE Hall of Famer
After I left advertising, I was working at a photography studio when WWE Hall of Famer, Trish Stratus came in for a photoshoot. This was around the time that I had first started watching wrestling, so while I knew her name, I can’t say that I really understood the impact she had on the industry.
This is specific photoshoot was to celebrate her daughters first birthday. We did this by recreating a photoshoot she had had a year prior on her due date
After this photo shoot, I worked closely with Trish to prepare her post to celebrate.
Of course, I knew that the post would get attention, I mean it is being posted by one of WWE’s most iconic wrestlers, but I had no idea just how big it would get!
When this post was sent out into the universe, it quickly became Trish’s best performing Instagram post of all time, and I believe at the time of writing this it still is!
My work was then picked up by multiple news outlets, and it was even shown on WWE’s weekly broadcast!

4. Total Transformation Challenge success
Aside from starting my own business, which may or may not be a spoiler for number five, one of the coolest things I’ve done in the past few years was pitching, creating, and managing an incredibly successful transformation challenge.
This challenge was designed to increase gym revenue, and not only did we smash our registration goals, but we also converted over 90% of participants to an upgraded or new membership.
This project was something that I spent a lot of time creating and managing and it was so fulfilling to be able to see all my hard work paying off when our participants concluded their transformation with a photo shoot.

5. starting my own business
And of course, I can’t talk about milestones and wins without talking about launching my own business, DoubleUnderscore.
While I had been working doing graphic and web design for a while, in the spring of 2021, it was finally the time to dive headfirst into my own business.
I already had some fantastic clients but leveraging the relationships that I had already in place I was able to expand my business beyond those I already worked with.
I still remember the first time a stranger not only filled out my Brand Breakdown but believed in me enough to build them a brand-new website.
Since then, I’ve had many more first-time clients work with me and I have evolved from being just a designer to being a brand manager who works one on one with my clients to see their successes.
There is so much more that I am proud of, but let’s wrap it up here.
Don’t forget to be your own cheerleader.
What are your tiny wins that make you smile!?
